| History
of the Multi-State Feeding and Nutrition Conference |
The poultry extension specialists from Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue, Kentucky, and Illinois jointly sponsor and conduct producer-oriented meetings for the poultry industry. On December 21 and 22, 1987, the poultry extension specialists along with the department heads met in Wooster, Ohio to study the regionalization of poultry extension program efforts. The Multi-State Poultry Extension effort was well underway before this meeting. Three years prior to this, Dr. Richard Adams, Purdue University, contacted Dr. Carl Parsons at the University of Illinois, Dr. Ed Naber at Ohio State, Dr. Cal Flegal at Michigan State, and Dr. Austin Cantor at Kentucky to plan a program and assign responsibilities for a Multi-State Poultry Feeding and Nutrition Conference. These Multi-State meetings have received high appraisal from the Extension Administrators and very well received by the poultry industry personnel in the five state area. At a meeting at Michigan State University, the president of Michigan State University praised the Multi-State Poultry Extension group and stated that other extension specialists should be looking at this kind of innovative extension programming as a model. When Dr. Koelkebeck came to Illinois, he interacted assumed responsibilities with the Multi-State Extension group and is now serving the role of director. Today there are new faculty from participating universities interacting on this project.
