Congenital hydrocephalus in a foal
Hydrocephalus is characterized by an abnormally large accumulation of fluid in the cranial cavity, resulting in an enlarged, domed appearance to the head. Hydrocephalus may be either external, in which fluid builds up between the brain and the skull cavity, or internal, in which fluid accumulates within the ventricles of the brain.
