    ANSC Hog Roast --   April 22, 1999  5-7 PM on the lawn west of the Poultry Building.  All ANSC undergraduate and graduate students are invited.  Please contact Denise Stall, Lily 3-115A by April 19 to let her know if you plan to attend.

    Boiler Barnyard -- April 17, 18, 1999  Located in front of and inside Smith Hall.  This is an opportunity to do a workday laboratory right on campus.  To volunteer to help and get workday lab credit, contact Dr. Nielsen jnielsen@purdue.edu.

    Job Opportunity -- Multi-Media Specialist Needed

    Position Available:ADDS (Agricultural Databases for Decision Support) Multi-Media Specialist for May 1999-August 1999.

    Position Description:  Person to work with the newly created ADDS (Agricultural Databases for Decision Support) Center on building species-specific databases. One key database this person will work with is the National Dairy Database v 4.0 due out in September 1999. The National Dairy Database will be created on both CD and as a web-interface. 

    Position Qualifications:   Strong knowledge of Microsoft OfficeTM applications (Word, Excel, Access). Ability to import/export file formats. Ability to format documents in an aesthetically pleasing and technically correct format.

    Scholarship Opportunity -- At a news conference at 10:30 a.m. this morning 3/8/99, the Lt. Governor, McDonald's and the IPPA will announce the McDonald's Pork Relief Scholarship Fund (MPRSF). Students from pork prodcuing families enrolled in a post-seondary education program for the 1999-2000 school year may apply for a grant from the McDonald's Pork Relief Scholarship Fund. Each grant will be $1500.  IPPA will administer the MPRSF. Applications may be requested by contacting IPPA.  The approximately 300 McDonald's restaurants in Indiana are donating $.10 to the fund from each McRib sandwich sold between February 5 & March 25, 1999.  Watch the media for more details.

    Final Exam  -- be sure to check the lecture syllabus for date of Final Exam -- Wednesday, May 5, 8:00-10:00 AM. 

    Job Opportunities with Growmark --  Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, 5:30-8:00 PM, Room 129 AGAD.   Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior ag majors are encouraged to stop by, share pizza and discuss employment opportunities in the Growmark FS System.

    Alternative Workday Lab -- Quadrathlon  Entry deadline for the ANSC Academic Quadrathlon is February 12, 1999.   The Written Exam and Lab Practical will be held Feb. 18 after 1:30 PM (to fit your schedule); the Quiz bowl and Oral Presentations will be held Feb. 19 after 3:30 PM, and the Final Bowl Game will be 7:00 PM  Feb. 25 at the Block and Bridle meeting.   This is a fun way to get to know people and information important to animal management!  Let's try to organize teams of 4 to represent each class lab section -- if you're interested in participating and don't know anybody to join with, email your name and the animal species you're most knowledgeable in and I will make that info available at this site.  The key to success is getting together with other people who's knowledge base is different from yours, because you can pool answers!!

    Job Opportunity -- I have an immediate opening for an undergraduate student worker in my lab.  The job entails a variety of tasks including dishwashing and lab work, a little animal work, and some library (journal) information retrieval. The successful applicant must be able to commit 10-15 (or 20) hours per week in time blocks of 3-4 h (between 8 and 6). There is a chance of summer employment as well. If you have an advisee that is considering graduate school this may be a good opportunity. Please have them call me (44847) to set up a time to visit.
