Major Extension Activities
- Provide producer education programs and materials related to the
application of genetic principles.
- Evaluate alternative genetic selection and selection programs.
- Conduct numerous workshops related to swine growth modeling, pork
quality, and genetic by environmental interactions.
- Act as a genetic consultant to the National Swine Registry,
independent seedstock producers and commercial producers.
- Serve as production editor of the National Swine Improvement Fact
Sheets.
- Active contributor to multi-departmental swine extension publications
and activities.
Teaching Activities
- Teach Animal Sciences 443 - Swine Production. Fall semester.
- Teach Animal Sciences 513 - Advanced Applied Animal Breeding. Spring
semester.
- Advisor for Animal Science 491 - Undergraduate Research Project.
Research Activities
- Conduct research in the areas of genetic selection programs,
selection objectives, lean growth modeling, pork quality, repartitioning agents
and methods to predict carcass composition and value.
- Collaborator on numerous swine research projects, including production
systems, environmental effects on pig growth, food safety, growth promotants
and biological markers of disease and stress.
- Member of the North Central Regional Committee on Lean Growth Modeling.
- Serve as advisor for graduate students.
- Serve on Animal Sciences Graduate Student Committee.
