PURPOSE:
An
Animal Sciences Ambassador is a selected student representative and a highly
valued member of the outreach team of the Department of Animal Sciences.
To
represent the Department of Animal Sciences by communicating with potential
Animal Sciences students, alumni, employers, and the public to promote goodwill
for the Department and Purdue
University
.
ACTIVITIES:
Conduct
tours of the Animal Sciences Research & Education Center, laboratories, and
campus; speak to high school students and parents about careers and campus life
during visits and recruiting trips; participate in Departmental and School of
Agriculture events such as Preview Days, Family Weekend, SpringFest; host
employers and alumni; and serve in Purdue booths at trade shows and conferences.
Students will commit significant effort and time to work closely with faculty
& gain leadership experience while interacting with families, employers, and
professional groups.
SELECTION
CRITERIA:
To
qualify for an ANSC Ambassador interview, a student must be a full-time student
in the Department of Animal Sciences; must have a minimum of 30 credit hours
completed by the end of the current semester, have at least two semesters of
undergraduate study remaining; and a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5.
Interested students must submit a cover letter of application and a
resume to Julie Correll, Poultry 112 by February 21.
The Outreach Committee will review applications and choose applicants for
an interview. Applicants must have a
positive attitude about Animal Sciences, good communication skills, ability to
work well with others, clear motivation to serve as an Ambassador, and exhibit
demonstrated leadership skills. Evidence
of these skills should be demonstrated through experiences discussed in a cover
letter of application and the interview.
TERM:
Selected
Ambassadors
will serve a one-year term and will be evaluated on participation and
performance criteria. Those who meet
the minimum requirements will have the opportunity to submit a cover letter of
application to continue. ANSC Ambassadors
must maintain a minimum cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5.
Should an Ambassador transfer out of Animal Sciences or fail to meet the
stated expectations, he/she will be asked to resign.
PROGRAM:
Upon selection as an Animal Sciences Ambassador, students will attend
training programs and will become familiar with the teaching, research and
extension activities of the Department and serve on a subcommittee leading a
portion of the outreach efforts.
